Happenings after Thanksgiving

Well we went and visited the granite yard again!!! When we left home we were going with a mild light granite around the perimeter of the kitchen and a dark more wow granite on the island. Well.... after much agonizing we ended up with a granite called Vyara Gold. A bit more "movement" than I thought we would end up with - but I do really like it. Jeremy and Matt are busy working on the Master bath tile. And the biggest treat this week was that we have our wood floor!

Thanksgiving morning - I was missing the girls alot, but I was able to give Jen some tips for stuffing the turkey, while Randy was snapping pictures of the finished work for the week.

More pictures of the busy week.

PGE & Cabinets arrive

We have been waiting and waiting for our electricity to be hooked up with PGE. Since we had quite a winter storm on Monday 11/12, we were told that we should expect any service to arrive until the Monday after Thanksgiving. We could get our new cabinets, but would need to try and keep the temp around 45-50 degrees. They started delivering the cabinets on Wednesday, Nov.14 and worked on the installation on Thursday 11/15 & Friday 11/16. Low and behold a BEAUTIFUL!!! PGE truck drove in on Friday 11/16 and they hooked up all our electricity in about 2 1/2 hours. Plus D&R came by and got the gas furnace started. Randy flew in on Friday evening and we had gas and electricity, plus cabinets. What a deal!!!! Garage doors were scheduled for Monday, 11/19. Jeremy and Matt are finishing up the stone fireplace as well as setting the wire for the "heated" tile in the master bath. Finally before Thanksgiving we hope to pick out our granite. A big feat since I'm still not completely sure I like granite - Randy loves it, especially the wilder ones. Wish us luck.

Interior Painting and Fireplace Finishes

This week started with a lovely cement front porch on Monday and a cement pad outside the garage. Tom & Terry finished up on the outside painting and moved inside as the rains started. Jeremy & Matt bounced back and forth between the fireplace mantle, the master bath tile work and the rock front on the fireplace. Today, Saturday we were finally able to take all but a couple of the plastic covers off the windows. It made everything so much brighter. Next week we will be painting a couple more days and then the cabinets come in YIPEEE!!!! The green in the kitchen looks kinda "minty" in the picture, but it really is a very subtle sage green and the last picture is our tile selections (finally) for the master bath.

Soon we can enter the front door!

Even for Oregon we had gobs of rain in October, but the last week or so has been wonderful after the fog has burned off. The outside painting is 99% complete and they poured the front porch and steps on Monday 11/5. The cement outside the garage is being poured today. Still trying to figure out the inside colors. Paint chips are of little help when you are considering a "huge" wall like in the great room. Trying to make it feel cozy not cold, but still not like a tunnel. We'll see. Have news that the cabinets are finished at the cab. shop and we will be bringing them in to install, stain, finish, as soon as we have electricity. Yes PGE-- hurry up!! The ditch is covered and everything is ready for the transformer. Better get back to my paperwork...have church council tonight and have monthly reports to complete.

We Have Paint

We have had such a mixed bag of weather this week - wasn't sure what would get accomplished. We did however get all the rock on the front of the house and the painter was able to paint most of the front and the east and west side of the house. Choosing paint seems to be a "crap shoot" but after this paint finally dried it was just great. (May look a bit greener in the pictures than it is in real life) The drywall guys have been back taping and mudding and we should be getting all the texture sprayed on Monday!! --- Then wait a day or two and the painters can start on the inside. The back patio is ready to pour and the crew is setting up for the cement front porch today --- so sounds like we may be pouring some concrete next week too. Randy comes home this evening and his #1 job is to get all the ditches finished and the pipe laid (electrical, phone & water lines) so we can get some electricity into the house. He has really worked hard on this and has about 75% of it complete but really got held up by the nasty rain and his work schedule. We must establish a more constant temp in the house, before we can get the wood & cabinets. The cabinets are scheduled during the week of Nov 5--- YIPEE -- we just may make it for Christmas.

Jen, Bill & Meg - the last few pictures are just for you. A nice few from the upstairs bedroom and a good look at the pumpkin patch. Oh and here is Jack after he had to inspect the empty drywall boxes... he must get his nose into everything (sorry about the eyes) Love ya, Mom

Here are the last of the drywall pictures

Here is more drywall pictures

Here we go with drywall - what a deal!!!! These guys are quick-- Came in at 6:45 am on Tuesday and finished by 5:30 pm on Wednesday. All done. Even started some taping this afternoon (Thursday) This however will probably take 7-10 days and if we don't get some electricity (heat) it may be longer ---- things sure look differant with wall.

More ditches

Last week the boys had some fun with those "big toys". Ben and Randy have been having a ball. Jim left the backhoe/blade here and the boys are having fun digging a new ditch for the water line. In the meantime, Jeremy and the crew are busy creating a beautiful stone rock face on the front of the house. The siders have completed all the siding and trim. Working on the insulation and soon we will start the sheetrock.
